1. Who we are
TrendWarz is operated by Laura Gachanja, a sole trader based in Nairobi, Kenya. For any privacy question, request, or complaint, contact support@trendwarz.com; we will also provide a postal address on request. Because we are established in Kenya, our processing is subject to the Kenyan Data Protection Act, 2019, and you may complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) at odpc.go.ke. Where other privacy laws apply to you, the rights described below apply in addition.
2. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how TrendWarz collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the app, create an account, upload content, vote, message other users, or contact support.
3. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly, including your email address, date of birth (used to verify your age), username, profile details, support messages, and content you upload. For users under 18, we also collect a parent or guardian's email address so we can request and manage the required consent. We also collect service data such as votes, follows, messages, notification preferences, device and app identifiers, push notification tokens, crash diagnostics, performance logs, and product analytics events.
4. How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts, deliver app features, process uploads, show battles and profiles, personalize and rank the battles shown in your feed based on signals such as recency, category, and your activity, support messaging and notifications, prevent fraud and abuse, investigate reports, comply with legal obligations, improve reliability, and measure product performance. Battle winners are always determined by community votes, not by ranking or personalization.
5. When information is shared
We do not sell personal information. We share information only when needed to run the service, such as with infrastructure and service providers that support authentication, database storage, video hosting, messaging, analytics, crash and error reporting, email delivery, and notifications — including Supabase, Cloudflare, Firebase or Google, and the email-delivery and error-monitoring providers we use — or when disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect users and the service.
6. Public content and profile visibility
Profile information, usernames, uploaded battle content, leaderboard placement, and other activity you choose to publish may be visible to other users. Please avoid sharing sensitive personal information in public fields or videos.
7. Storage, security, and retention
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, but no system is perfectly secure. We retain information only as long as needed. Indicative periods: account and profile data for as long as the account is active, then deleted or anonymised within 30 days of a deletion request; uploaded videos until you delete them or your account; encrypted backups for up to 35 days; server, crash, and performance logs for up to 90 days; moderation, safety, and report records for up to 24 months so we can act on repeat behaviour; and records we must keep to meet a legal obligation or defend a legal claim for as long as that obligation or claim lasts. Some backups and safety records may therefore persist for a limited period after a deletion request has been completed in the live service.
8. Your choices
You can update your profile details in the app, request a password reset, disable certain device permissions, and request account deletion. Depending on where you live, you also have rights over your personal information — including the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to its processing, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. We process your information under lawful bases that include your consent, performance of our agreement with you (to provide the app), and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the service; you may ask which basis applies by contacting support@trendwarz.com. If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. When you delete your account, active account access is removed and associated data is deleted or anonymized according to our operational and legal retention needs.
9. Children and teen protections
TrendWarz is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly permit children under 13 to create accounts; we collect date of birth at sign-up and block accounts that indicate an age under 13. Users aged 13 to 17 are placed in a protected teen experience and are asked to provide a parent or guardian's email address so we can request verifiable parental consent before full access is granted; additional protections such as daily time limits, content filtering, and messaging restrictions may apply. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. Parents or guardians with questions or requests can contact us at support@trendwarz.com.
10. International processing and policy changes
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including by TrendWarz and its service providers. Where personal information is transferred outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as standard contractual clauses or a provider's approved transfer mechanism — to protect it. We may update this Policy from time to time and will post the current version in the app. Privacy questions and deletion requests can be sent to support@trendwarz.com.
11. Cookies and the website
Our app does not use advertising cookies. The trendwarz.com website uses only cookies and local storage that are strictly necessary to serve the site and remember your display preferences, plus privacy-respecting aggregate traffic measurement. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share browsing data. You can block cookies in your browser; strictly necessary ones may be required for parts of the site to work.
12. California notice at collection
For California residents, this is our notice at collection. Categories of personal information we collect and the purpose for each: identifiers (email address, username, user ID, device and push identifiers) to create and secure your account and deliver notifications; age and date of birth to operate the age gate and teen protections; a parent or guardian email address for users aged 13 to 17 to seek consent; audio, visual, and electronic information (videos, thumbnails, messages, comments) to provide the core service; internet and network activity (votes, follows, watch and interaction signals, crash and performance diagnostics) to rank the feed, keep the service reliable, and prevent abuse; and inferences drawn from your activity solely to personalise the order of content in your feed. We do not collect precise geolocation, biometric information, government identifiers, or financial account numbers. We disclose personal information only to the service providers listed in section 5, for the business purposes described. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes requiring an opt-out. California residents may request to know, delete, correct, or receive a portable copy of their personal information by emailing support@trendwarz.com from the address on the account; we verify requests by confirming control of that email address, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. You may use an authorised agent to submit a request on your behalf.
13. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
TrendWarz does not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration. We do not sell data to advertisers or data brokers. California residents have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Since we do not sell or share personal information, no further action is required. If you have questions or want to confirm this, contact support@trendwarz.com.
14. Accessibility
TrendWarz is committed to making our website and app accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. We aim to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines. If you experience any accessibility barriers, please contact us at support@trendwarz.com and we will work to resolve the issue promptly.
